The Florya coast
Istanbul Aquarium is on the Marmara seafront, and the coast in both directions is a landscaped promenade with tea gardens, playgrounds, cycle lanes and, in summer, public beach sections. It is where local families spend Sunday, and after two hours indoors it is the natural place to walk. West towards Florya proper the path is quieter; east towards Yeşilköy it is busier and has the pier.
Atatürk's seaside residence
A ten-minute walk along the coast east of the aquarium is the Atatürk Deniz Köşkü, a wooden villa built in 1935 on a pier over the sea as a summer residence for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. It is small, quick and genuinely atmospheric: the sea under the floorboards, period furniture, and a view back along the coast. It keeps museum hours and has a modest entry fee; check the day's opening before walking over.
Yeşilköy
One Marmaray stop east (or a 25-minute walk along the coast), Yeşilköy is the old summer-resort neighbourhood next to the former airport, with a compact centre of low houses, a waterfront of tea gardens and fish restaurants, and a small pier. It is the pleasant place for a late lunch or an evening meal after the aquarium if you would rather not eat in the mall.
Bakırköy
Two stops further east, Bakırköy is the district's busy commercial centre: a pedestrian shopping street, a big open-air market on certain days, and the İDO ferry pier with boats to Kadıköy and Bostancı on the Asian side. Useful mainly as a transport hub or if someone in the party wants proper shopping rather than a mall.
The former Atatürk Airport
The aquarium sits next to the site of Istanbul's old international airport, closed to passenger flights in 2019 and now partly a park. There is nothing to visit, but it explains the wide roads and the number of airport hotels in the area; if you are staying in one of them, the aquarium is your nearest attraction and a taxi is minutes.
