Checked on 11 September 2026 against the official visiting-hours page.
One discrepancy to know about. The official site's own footer and its FAQ page both state 10:00–20:00 every day, while the dedicated visiting-hours page says weekdays close at 19:00. We list the more conservative figure. If you are planning a weekday evening visit, phone 444 97 44 (the official sales line) or plan to arrive by 17:00 so the difference does not matter.
Planning around the hours
The walking route is 1.2 km and most visitors take between two and three hours, more with the Ocean Giants exhibition or the VR ride. Work backwards from closing time: a weekday arrival at 16:00 leaves you three hours; arriving at 17:30 means skipping zones.
The aquarium is inside a complex with the Aqua Florya shopping mall, whose shops and restaurants stay open until 22:00. If you arrive late, you can still eat and let the children run in the mall afterwards; you just cannot re-enter the aquarium.
Best time to visit
Quietest: weekday mornings and early afternoons during Turkish school terms. Turkish school holidays are the two-week semester break starting in the last week of January, a mid-term week in April and another in November, and the summer from mid-June to early September. During these, weekdays feel like weekends.
Busiest: Saturday and Sunday from about 13:00, the semester break in late January (this is when "istanbul akvaryum" searches peak every year), and the public holidays. Expect a 20–30 minute ticket-desk queue, which a pre-booked mobile ticket avoids, and slower movement through the tunnel and the penguin section.
Rainy days: the aquarium is one of Istanbul's default rainy-day plans, so a wet weekend is the busiest scenario of all. A wet weekday is fine.
Feeding times and shows
The official site lists feeding sessions and a photography service as scheduled activities but does not publish a fixed timetable online. Times are posted at the entrance on the day. If a feeding matters to you (the penguins are the popular one), ask at the desk when you arrive and plan your route so you reach that zone in time; the route is one-way, so you cannot easily go back.
Hours of nearby things
- Aqua Florya mall: 10:00–22:00 daily.
- Marmaray trains: roughly 06:00–00:00, every 8–15 minutes; see how to get there.
- Florya coast path and Atatürk's seaside residence: the coast is open all day; the residence (Atatürk Deniz Köşkü) keeps museum hours, see what is nearby.
Frequently asked questions
What time does Istanbul Aquarium open?+
10:00 every day of the week.
What time does it close?+
The official visiting-hours page says 19:00 Monday to Friday and 20:00 on Saturday and Sunday. The footer of the official site and its FAQ say 20:00 every day. For a late weekday visit, call 444 97 44 before you travel.
Is Istanbul Aquarium open on public holidays?+
It normally opens on Turkish public and religious holidays (Ramadan Bayram, Kurban Bayram, 29 October, 1 January), and these are among its busiest days. The official site does not publish a holiday calendar; check the official social channels the day before if your visit falls on a holiday.
When is it least crowded?+
Weekday mornings between 10:00 and 12:00 outside Turkish school holidays. School groups arrive on weekday mornings during term time, so 13:00 to 16:00 on a term-time weekday is often the calmest window of all.
How late can I enter?+
Last ticket sales are at closing time according to the official page, but the route takes 2 to 3 hours. Arriving less than 90 minutes before closing means a rushed visit.
